Random Japaneseness

  1. Spiderman, giant Robots, rubber suit monsters and pre-fight poses. This show is awesome, though I've still only seen a couple of episodes. Especially if you contrast it to the U.S. live action series that was running at about that time (late '70s).

  2. ^ Still trying to get my mind around the giant robot...

  3. Was that Spidey's giant robot, or a villain, or a random giant robot? Did Japanese Spidey ever team up with the Dynamen? :-)

  4. Our Spidey is better than their Spidey...

  5. That was Spidey's robot and his race car.

I don't think Japan has a Spiderman, currently. Not in movies or TV, though this series from the seventies is available there in a box set. There was a comicbook version back in the late sixties by Ryuichi Ikegami (Crying Freeman) which wasn't great.

But if you compare the The 1970's TV Spidermen (who existed just about simultaneously), Japanese Spiderman puts his foot in the ass of that elbow patch wearing fool, Nicholas Hammond. No contest.

  6. See this is that Weng Weng-type pre-RZA track stuff that I love.

"Random Japaneseness" is proving itself to be a redundant term.

  7. That was ... out there.

Looks like young was hanging out with Optimus Prime's uncle or something.

    At any rate, definitely buck-wilderness.

But, dude, Nicholas was quuuute! I didn't even remember the elbow patches until you mentioned it. Preppy Peter Parker, away!

  9. I don't know why, but those elbow patches annoyed the hell out of me. Those and the eyes on his Spiderman mask.

The Electric Company got the eyes right.

That Spiderman is almost as cool as Japanese Spiderman.
