Okay, wait a minute. Did Mitt Romney once actually claim that he – not only his father, but he, Mitt Romney – had “marched with Martin Luther King Jr. through the streets of Detroit”?
Evidently so... in 1978. Turns out he was speaking figuratively. Or something.
Well, on Friday Chris Matthews put his foot up Mitt Romney’s ass (figuratively) on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” Because the Republican presidential candidate seems to have a habit of saying untrue things.
Matthews hashed it all out with Kevin Madden, press secretary for the Romney campaign. It was like two pit bulls going at it.
Actually, it was more like pit bull vs. bunny rabbit. Matthews tore him to pieces. It was great political theater and great television.
I have the audio. Click here to hear it. (You can download it via iTunes until late Monday. Just search the “Podcasts” database for “Hardball.”)
Romney isn't a threat. Guliani isn't either. Both too vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteHuckabee is the one who's gonna pose the biggest threat to the Dems. Because he appeals to the Pabst Blue Ribbon Jesus freak crowd.
And there's a whole bunch of them that show up to vote.
And their votes won't get lost.
Nor will they be purged from the voter rolls.
Romney is a distraction.
Here's a Youtube video of the Hardball..

I concur with Deangelo. The political shift necessary to launch Rudy or Mitt would have to be of seismic proportions. It's doubtful that this could happen in a single election cycle. Northeastern elites have been on the periphery of the GOP since Truman was elected POTUS and have been marginal to Democratic success since the days of LBJ.
ReplyDeleteHowever, a failed run by Huckabee could provide the momentum needed for the re-emergence of that segment referred to as Rockefeller Republicans and characterized in the past by Willkie, Dewey, Eisenhower, and Nelson Rockefeller himself.
The Huckleby is to religious for the soft right.
ReplyDeleteThe Jesus-freak crowd isn't large enough to swing things in his favor.
Who gets purged from the voter rolls depends entirely upon whom controls those rolls in the respective precincts.
Romney and Hillery just lost themselves the entire video gamer vote. Which might actually be larger than the Jesus-freak vote.
Meanwhile, Ron Pauls ship of nazi's, code pinkos, and 9/11 troofers is stuck in port with an enemy fleet just off-shore pounding away at it. (told y'all I had work to do...)
The nod is Rudy's to lose.

DeAngelo! Raiders fan? Same same -since Kenny Stabler days.
SUFFERAGE,
R
render, became a Raider fan the day the ended the Dolphins' reign in the Sea of Hands game. 9 or 10 years old and I can still see Cliff Branch catching the bomb, falling down, untouched, gets up, and sprints for the td.
ReplyDeleteSufferage. Major league sufferage.
Gotta depart company with you on the impact of the Jesus freak crowd and voter purge.
Godd to know a fellow Raider fan though.
"Romney and Hillery just lost themselves the entire video gamer vote. Which might actually be larger than the Jesus-freak vote."
ReplyDeleteDoubt it. The Jesus freaks come out to vote yet the gamers don't. The churches endorse candidates so they do turn out in big numbers.
It does seem like Huckabee will turn out to be the nominee, but anything can happen.
This is a new low for Romney though.
