Jara Harris and his band Slapbak have been funking up Orange County since the early ’90s, God bless ’em. Their debut CD, “Fast Food Funkateers,” featured guest artists George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and Fred Wesley.
Fifteen years later, Slapbak is still on the job. Follow this link to the band’s MySpace page, where you can download a 2006 track called “Futurevoid.”
Click here to spin it on my Vox site.

Wow...I can't believe somebody knows about them besides me, haha. Once again you have impressed me UBM. And to know they're still playing is a bigger surprise...good for them...wish they'd made it bigger, they are obviously for real.
Never heard of them. Nice pick, though. Visited their MySpace page but I couldn't dl the song. Listened to "Lowrider" also, and liked it as well.
^ Jena6, I just double-checked. The "Futurevoid" track is downloadable, but the other MySpace tracks aren't. Do you have trouble downloading other MP3s from MySpace?
IW, have you ever seen Slapbak live? Do they bring it?
No, haven't seen them live, but they were on a label that I used to work with and they were big fans of Amp. I could tell by being around them they were really dedicated to the music...I have always missed their performances by like 1 or 2 days in the past... :-(
