Wednesday 45 Flashback: ‘Remember Me’

Another lovely spinning artifact from thunderbird1958 (formerly spoonfedcornbread).

This Diana Ross hit was written and produced – grandiosely – by Ashford & Simpson.

  1. Guess I slept on this one; I don't remember it. I grabbed my "Diana Ross Musical Memoirs" box-set and there it is on disc two. Never noticed.

  2. I've always liked this one. And I'm not hung up on Diana Ross otherwise.

This was the follow-up to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." And probably the momentum of that smash is what carried "Remember Me" to the pop Top 20. Because it's kind of a peculiar song.

What I like about it is, it reaches for big drama. I also like odd lyrics like "Remember me as a big balloon at a carnival that ended too soon..."

  3. Wow, my parents must have had this on one of their records because I remember it very well; I really dig it. Thanks for the memories, UBM!

  4. Motown put out a CD of songs written by Ashford & Simpson in "The Composer Series."

"Remember Me" is among them, and I listen to it in the car.

  5. ^ Thanks for commenting, Dick.

I was unaware of the "Composer Series," but it sounds like a great concept. I'm gonna look for the Norman Whitfield...
