As much as athletes seem to fall prey to the Misidentified Black Person syndrome, I never figured Sports Illustrated would slip up. And definitely not when two Heisman Trophy-winning football stars are involved.But in the July 23 issue of SI, you’ll find this correction on page 14:
“Desmond Howard... was misidentified in a Leading Off photo of 16 Heisman winners in the July 16 issue.”
To be specific, the magazine labeled him as another wide receiver – Tim Brown.

The Washington Post achieved a similar distinction: in a story about signing infielder Ronnie Belliard to a contract extension, the accompanying photo was that of shortstop Cristian Guzman: apparently all dark-skinned Dominicans look alike to the Post. Call Belliard the "Misidentified Black Dominican of the Week."
