Yes. Had to grab my player to see if I had this on it. I do. :-)
Had that strawberry-colored 12" too. I remember thinking how hippy-trippy this sounded back then, unlike anything I was used to hearing on urban contemporary radio.
I was trying to remember the name of this song and hummed a few notes for my friend, a musicologist of sorts, and once she named that tune, I've had it on my MP3 player ever since.
Blasting right into my distant past. Had this exact disk too. Loved that it was red - used to hold it up to the light. Probably why it ended up getting warped. Doh. Thanks UBM
i'm with you bklyn6--even with the explanation of shuggie's first album, the lyrics make zero sense--always loved this song so much tho, even tho i'm sure inebriation was involved on all sides, haha
There should be a small museum somewhere devoted to the story of psychedelic funk, with this song and early Funkadelic (sometimes I get so used to that name that I forget what it means) as prime examples.

I really dig this song.
Ahhh, yes! Shuggie Otis by way of the Brothers Johnson! With velvet roses diggin' freedom flight! Undercover Brother, you did it again!
^I'm not very familiar with Shuggie Otis, but I have his version as well.

Da hell? But, that's what I'm talkin' about. :-D
^ That's the one line that means something. "Freedom Flight" was the name of Shuggie's first LP.
:^D
