No disrespect to Mr. Obama, but I just have to comment on the Redd Foxx recording. Damn that man is wrong...in a good way!! I think the President would agree. :)
^ The thing about Redd Foxx... isn't it nice to watch a professional work? To just see someone bring all of his stage experience to bear and own that stage?
EXACTLY! The timing and storytelling alone.
Again, no disrespect, but the "repeat the phrase for effect" rhythm of Chris Rock can be a bit tiresome. Mr. Foxx and others of his day, incorporated those who did not get the joke the first time around into the game. Both performer and audience had to pay attention, or as you so aptly put "work." Work can be fun too...as our President also shows. :)

My dad's, actually. Looking all like an Indian and shit.
One of my aunt's told me I could go to the Pamunkey reservation in Virginia and be accepted by the (mostly mixed-with-white) remnants of that tribe, whereas my brown-skinned cousins wouldn't be.
She said I could be chief of the Pamunkeys!

My aunt worked that angle.
I think more black folks should research and embrace their Native American heritage. Not to run away from their blackness in pursuit of "good hair", but to represent a people who have suffered from genocidal attacks.
Pictures like this are great, because even if you have never met the person, you feel like you know them. It is like a big piece to your human puzzle.
Got a pic of my Great Grandmother (1915) and I look just like her. I nearly cried, because I was the black sheep of the family. It was like a big FU to my inlaws.

Sadly, many of America's Native American tribes are working to "disenfranchise" those African Americans who can link their heritage to them.
Racism. What a powerful and dangerous cultural wedge.
(yeah, my mom was/is very angry with me for not applying for such scholarships. i just kept thinking of the kids who were raised in reservation ghettos. in comparison, i was a privileged girl. of course, i still have dollars upon dollars of student loans to pay off. :)
