Kwame Kilpatrick, mayor of Detroit, has been catching hell in the black blogosphere for tapping the ass of his redbone chief of staff... then lying about it in court... and now getting caught in that lie.
“Kwame Kilpatrick: Poster Child for the Failure of Black Accountability.” Thus blogged Aaron & Alaine at A Political Season.
“Kwame Kilpatrick’s Fake Apology to the People of Detroit.” Thus blogged Lynn Green at HickTown Press.
“Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy.” Thus blogged That Bitch! at Rhymes with Snitch.
What does Mayor Kilpatrick say in his own defense? Beats me. But here is what he should have said... (Thanks, RJ.)

Man, not even I can blame that Negro's stupidity on white people.
I loved this apology. Having his wife there trying to defend him.
C.L.A.S.S.Y.
Sorry ma'am, the next time your husband cheats on you and doesn't text message his mistress/cheif of staff on government issued technology and then lies about it under oath and on record in court, is when its actually considered a private matter.
At least Slick Willy didn't tell on himself.
Doh! Get it together Grouch!
UBM,
Did you say redbone? Lol
But seriously, I feel so bad for Christine; she's the only one who is paying any real price for this.
Kilpatrick is still Mayor, still married, still using the City of Detroit as his personal bank account.
wait, did he say i'll see ya'll tomorrow at work?????
LOL
this video is funky!
UBM that clip is funny, it took me by surprise. In that picture he looks like a young pimp.
I imagine his apology beginning something like, "Well, you see...whuhahappenwuz..."
That video was funny, tho'.
I have to say his wife appears to be a very combative person. Her anger in this case seems to be misplaced. She needs to redirect all that rage to the cretin at her side.
This from a Mayor who had a pool party as his inaugural celebration. No joke.
Ironically, y'all, over the weekend I stumbled on a PBS showing of "Eyes on the Prize" -- I guess they dust that one off every Black History Month -- and it was the part where Carl Stokes became mayor of Cleveland, thus becoming the first black person to govern a major American city.
Fascinating story, well-made documentary. And now, 40 years later, we see what Mr. Kilpatrick is doing with the opportunity.
Kwame's actions in Detroit are disgraceful. It will be even more disgraceful however if the majority of Detroit's black electorate don't hold him to account. And it will be fascinating if the other shoe should drop and old rumors be confirmed as fact. If the story ends now, it will be shame on the black citizens of Detroit. Watch Detroit for the next 90 days. If nothing further happens, the blacks of Detroit and the business community will have conspired to save Kilpatrick from his transgressions once again.
Dave, good point about how far some politicians have fallen given what some went through to get there.
I loved fisher's comment.
Aaron and Alaine, thanks for commenting. Indeed, let's see what the future brings.
The good news for the mayor is that since the Attorney General of Michigan was rumored to be at the party that involved the stripper who wound up dead, any prosecution will only go so far.
