Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was quite funny on “Saturday Night Live” the other night, poking fun at himself in a charming way.
Amazingly, the Associated Press and The Nation magazine totally didn’t get the final joke.
Gov. Huckabee talked about how he won’t “overstay [his] welcome” in the presidential race... and then he refused to leave the stage when Seth Meyers made it clear his time was up. All part of the comedy, folks. Meyers, Huckabee and Amy Poehler continued to read off cue cards during this fake-awkward moment.
But the AP put out a story with this headline: “Huckabee Lingers on the Set of ‘SNL.’ ” As if he really did miss his cue to exit.
The Nation also posted a piece last night headlined “Huckabee Overstays His Welcome.”
“Even as Meyes signaled that the segment was done,” The Nation reported, “Huckabee stuck around, grabbing an unwarranted share of camera time.
“Huckabee’s timing was impeccable, in an entirely inappropriate but amusing way. ... Sort of an apt metaphor for Huckabee’s continued presence in the Republican race, no?”
Uhhh... hence the joke, dumbasses!

That's what happens when humorless people write the news :-D
"americans are a stupid people by and large." Bunk.
There's plenty of humor here...and I'm sure some of it seeped into the people....It's just not the kind you're supposed to laugh at.
I have to say, I like Huckabee, creationism and uncanny Jim Nabors resemblance notwithstanding. He was great on the Colbert Report. Thanks for the link!
Just like Colbert's White House dinner appearance, for whatever reason, political reporters don't know what jokes are and attribute the sound of laughter to a respiratory disorder of indeterminate origin.
Huckabee's social policies scare me, but damnit if he doesn't have great comedic timing. He's so great on these shows. Everytime he shows up I say, "Oh come on, not him again!" and he then once again proceeds to be funny. It can't be taught.
I really began to like Huckabee during the BET debate. I loved the way he chided his fellow Republicans for their "scheduling conflicts." I'm also happy that he's making McCain work for his nomination. I just wish that we agreed on at least one policy.
Now he's touting an amendment that would make (human) eggs people. Is that truly scary - or really funny?
are you going to be live blogging during the debate?

Are we talking fertilized or non-fertilized eggs? They're both scary, but one is much scarier than the other. 'Zounds!

Hey Trisha. Thanks for asking; yes I will be!
I hope you come by and share your thoughts.
Dez - I had to look that up to double check just how crazy he may be. Fertilized eggs.
Would that mean the death penatly for the nurse that tosses the frozen embryos from the parents give birth to quintuplets? Yikes!
