As far as I know, this is not a rare sentiment in Africa.

It's a little heartbreaking to hear such a sentiment. But I also know that, 40 to 50 years after the abolition of slavery in the U.S., the question was still being openly asked whether black folks were better off under slavery.
For Africa, I expect that the passage of time will change all that. Not just time, but like Mr. Mutambara says, the rise of a new African leadership class.
