We’ve been showing the love to Living Colour and Fishbone, and that’s cool. But what about these less-heralded Black Rock Coalition stalwarts, the Screaming Headless Torsos?
Their leader, David “Fuze” Fiuczynski, belongs right up there with Vernon Reid, Jean-Paul Bourelly and Jef Lee Johnson as living gods of the electric guitar.
And vocalist Dean Bowman is damn-near in a category by himself.
An audio file is worth a thousand words; this version of George Harrison’s “Something” says more than I ever could about the brilliance of Fiuczynski and Bowman.
I recommend you rockers jump all over the FREE video download available from the Torsos. It’s a 3-minute snippet from the DVD “Live!! In New York & Paris.”
Simply visit the band’s webpage, scroll down to where it says “Screaming Headless Torsos – Live DVD!!” You’ll see these clickable words: “Download Free Ipod Video.”
Click that shit.
If watching it leaves you curious about Fuze and his double-necked axe, here’s another freebie for you. Videomaker David Valdez has generously uploaded a 9-minute clip to the free-for-all Internet Archive site; it features Fiuczynski talking about his guitars and noodling around.
Just click here; you can either watch it streaming, or you can download it and own it forever and ever.
